Frequently Asked Questions

  • If your dog is 10 MONTHS of age older at the date of the first class, you are in the perfect age group for this class

  • Dogs that have displayed aggression, have bitten other dogs or people or are reactive to other dogs or people are not suitable for this class and should not book in. We will be happy to assist you with a more suitable service such as a 1:1 training program, please contact us to discuss further.

  • We have a maximum of five dogs per class to ensure that you get enough of our attention and that your dogs are not overwhelmed. We aim to have a minimum of three dogs each class.

  • You will learn what socialisation is, the unique social needs of your individual dog, how to practice on leash introductions, what consistutes healthy and unhealthy play and how to step in and separate play if we need to. All while your dog is practicing socialising with other dogs and the other people in the class too.

  • Each class runs for 45 minutes. We run them as often as possible on Saturday mornings.

  • Absolutely.Just let us know that you’d like some 1:1 support and we can arrange this with you.

  • We welcome all breeds into our classes. Whether they’re big, small, bouncy or shy we will ensure that each pup is set up to succeed.

  • If your dog is very scared of other dogs then you may benefit more from some 1:1 support, so please contact us if this is the case and we will be happy to help. But if your dog is curious about other dogs but a little shy, then this could be a great class for you both. If you’re on the fence, contact us and we’ll happily guide you in the best direction.

  • Yes, absolutely. Not that we will ever allow any play to happen in which all parties aren’t enjoying it but this class will help you learn how to help your dog regulate their emotions, learn how to practice healthy socialisation skills (not necessarily play) and teach you what your dog really needs to start practicing better social skills.

  • Nope. There are lots of classes out there that teach that. But we will teach you practical skills that you can really use in everyday life with your dog. We’ll teach you how to handle a leash, regulate play, set your dog up for success and so much more.

Why Is This Class So Important?

We have worked with thousands of dogs in Sydney and we have never met a dog owner that hasn’t agreed that socialising is important.

We also have never met a dog owner that actually knew what socialising really is, what they were really trying to achieve or how they were going to do it.

A socially appropriate dog is friendly, respectful, non invasive, coherent, responsive to others needs and communicative of their own needs without causing fear, pain, anxiety.

It is all about the quality of our dogs experiences when it comes to socialising, not the quantity so we will teach you how to socialise your dog, what their individual needs are and the practical skills you need to do so.

Taking what you learn in these classes into the real world will genuinely make your life easier and your dogs life better every day for the rest of their lives.

How Do We Work?

We have created our unique framework that teaches you everything you need to know to live a happy and healthy life with your dogs!

The Five Pillars of Emotional Health

ENRICHMENT

Understanding enrichment is key. It’s far more than simply giving our dogs puzzles, Kongs and Lickimats.

Our dogs’ behaviour should be seen as communication and when we think about it, they are often communicating that one of their enrichment needs is currently the priority for them. It is information for us to use to diagnose and resolve the need.

SLEEP, REST & RECOVERY

One of the most underestimated enrichment needs of our dogs and yet so essential for healthy emotional regulation is sleep, rest and recovery. Just like us, their nervous systems and bodies must be able to regulate and recover.

Without it, our dogs become erratic, agitated, unpredictable and irrational and yet not enough emphasis is put on it

HEALTHY NUTRITION & EATING PATTERNS

The right diet can aid physical health and energy levels like nothing else as well as their mental and emotional health.

Poor eating habits such as fussy eating and grazing are often symptoms of underlying mental and emotional health issues. Addressing these with simple changes can make all the difference to our dogs behaviour

EXERCISE

Exercise is so important to our dogs well being and yet we see so many struggling with compulsive disorders and unwanted behaviours driven by their mental and emotional health being compromised each time their humans exercise them.

Exercise is important but we must ensure that it is genuinely healthy for the dog otherwise it defeats its purpose

CONNECTION & RELATIONSHIP

It’s so important that we learn to demonstrate healthy leadership to those in our care including our dogs and that we communicate effectively, set them up to succeed and build a level of trust between our dogs that they understand what we’re saying, trust us enough to listen and respond appropriately. When we do this we build a bond with our dogs that only our dogs can bring into our lives.
